Description

What is Sumatriptan?

Sumatriptan tablets are a generic, low-cost version of the branded medicine Imigran used to treat migraines. Migraines cause excruciating headaches, dizziness and nausea, as well as light and sound sensitivity. The pain is usually localised, severe, and debilitating. Sumatriptan falls under Triptans (aka 5-HR1 agonists). The drug is often prescribed to help deal with the changes in the brain brought on by migraines. Doctors prescribe Triptans to offer relief for headaches where ordinary painkillers have not been efficient. The drug stimulates serotonin receptors in the brain, which cause the muscles surrounding the blood vessels in the brain to contract. The remedy relieves the sickness within 30 minutes.

How Does Sumatriptan Work?

Sumatriptan targets serotonin (5-HT) receptors in the brain to reduce the dilation of blood vessels and decrease inflammation. This helps alleviate headache pain, nausea, and sensitivity to light and sound associated with migraines.
