The active ingredient in atorvastatin tablets is atorvastatin, which belongs to a class of drugs known as statins. Statins work by blocking an enzyme in the liver that is responsible for producing cholesterol. This decreases the amount of cholesterol that is available in the body and helps to lower LDL ("bad") cholesterol levels and raise HDL ("good") cholesterol levels. By reducing the amount of LDL cholesterol in the blood, atorvastatin may help to prevent heart disease, stroke, and other serious health problems. What Does Atorvastatin Treat? High cholesterol Stroke Heart attack Clogged blood vessels Thyroid disorder
Do not use Atorvastatin if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. Do not use Atorvastatin if you have a history of kidney or liver disease. Do not use Atorvastatin when pregnant or breastfeeding without the approval of your doctor. You must avoid consuming alcohol when using Atorvastatin to avoid experiencing adverse side effects. Do not use Atorvastatin if you are above 70 years or have respiratory problems. Before taking Atorvastatin, you must inform your doctor about any other prescription medication you are using.
You must take the tablets exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Atorvastatin is typically taken once a day, with or without food. Atorvastatin tablets are available in 10 mg, 20 mg, and 40 mg, strengths. The usual starting dose is 10 or 20 mg taken once daily, but it may be increased based on your response to the medication. Ensure your hands are clean and dry before and after interacting with the tablets. Swallow the tablets with water without crushing or chewing to avoid damaging the components. Try to take Atorvastatin at the same time each day to maintain consistency. If you miss a dose of Atorvastatin, take it as soon as possible unless it is almost time for your next dose, whereby you should skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.
