Description

What is Desogestrel?

Desogestrel pill contains only progesterone for preventing ovulation. as an estrogen-free contraceptive, Desogestrel has a 12 hours window, unlike the traditional progesterone-only-pills (POP), which only gives you the flexibility of up to 3 hours. Desogestrel 75mcg pills are taken daily without a break and are an effective choice for breastfeeding women and those who can't tolerate products that contain oestrogen.

Desogestrel is a suitable option for those who cannot take pills containing estrogen and is effective when taken correctly. It also offers flexibility for smokers over 35 and women experiencing migraines with aura. When used as directed, it can reduce heavy periods and, for some women, may stop periods entirely.

How it works

The active ingredient in these tablets is desogestrel. It works by stopping the process of ovulation in women. It does this by thickening a woman's cervical mucus, making it preventing male sperms from getting to the eggs. As a result, pregnancy is prevented since male sperms are unable to reach the female eggs for fertilization. Desogestrel can be taken up to 12 hours late and will still be effective. It is a perfect contraceptive option for women who would like to avoid oestrogen products. Desogestrel is also recommended for breastfeeding mothers.

Warnings

  • Read the Patient Information Leaflet for a detailed list of all the warnings related to desogestrel.
  • Consult your doctor if you have diabetes, liver disease, or high blood pressure.

  • Like many other hormonal contraceptives, desogestrel increases your risk of breast cancer. As a result, keep examining your breast and seek medical advice if you notice anything unusual.
  • You have increased chances of developing pulmonary embolism or blood clots.
