Eumovate ointment is a moderate-strength steroid that relieves inflamed skin and itching caused by eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, and insect bites. It is a preventative measure in some circumstances that stops eczema flare-ups. Eumovate ointment is classified as a topical corticosteroid. The medicine effectively reduces redness, itching, and swelling on crusty skin. Eumovate is also available as a lotion and cream. The treatment is used for areas of dry, flakey or scaly skin. It clears skin irritation within seven days.
Skin inflammation happens when the body releases chemicals in response to an allergen or irritation. These chemicals make blood vessels widen, causing the skin or scalp to swell and become painful. Eumovate ointment contains the active ingredient clobetasone butyrate. It works by mimicking the body's natural hormones produced by the adrenal glands. The steroids suppress inflammation by suppressing the cell's reaction to irritation or allergens and reducing the number of chemicals produced.
Eumovate ointment is unsuitable for patients that meet the conditions below:
Follow the guidance of a medical professional and consult the instructions before use:
The active ingredient in Eumovate: clobetasone butyrate, each 1 gram contains 0.5mg (0.05%w/w).
Eumovate ointment has the inactive ingredients: chlorocresol, cetostearyl alcohol, beeswax substitute 6621, citric acid monohydrate, liquid paraffin and soft white paraffin.
Side effects when using the ointment are very minimal. If you experience any, they may include:
Prolonged use, especially on large body areas or under dressings, may lead to thinning of the skin, stretch marks, or increased hair growth. If side effects persist or if you experience symptoms like redness or irritation, discontinue use and consult your healthcare provider.
1. How often should I use Eumovate Ointment?
Apply a thin layer to the affected area 1-2 times daily. Once the symptoms improve, you can reduce the application frequency as advised by your doctor.
2. Is Eumovate suitable for children?
Yes, it can be used for short-term treatment in children under the supervision of a healthcare professional. However, avoid long-term use, especially in children under 12 years old.
3. Can I use Eumovate on my face?
Use Eumovate on the face only if prescribed by a doctor and avoid using it near the eyes. The skin on the face is thinner and more sensitive to corticosteroids.
4. How long can I use Eumovate Ointment?
Generally, Eumovate should not be used for more than 7 days in adults or 5 days in children unless directed by a healthcare professional. Prolonged use can increase the risk of side effects.
5. Can I use Eumovate with moisturisers?
Yes, but apply the moisturizer first and wait for 10-15 minutes before applying Eumovate to allow the skin to absorb the moisturiser.
