Paracetamol (also known as acetaminophen) is a commonly used over-the-counter pain reliever and fever reducer. It is effective for treating mild to moderate pain, such as headaches, muscle aches, or dental pain, and reducing fever from infections or illnesses like the cold or flu. It is suitable for both adults and children and is often the first-line treatment for minor aches and pains due to its well-tolerated profile.
Paracetamol works by blocking the production of certain chemicals in the brain (prostaglandins) that signal pain and inflammation. While its precise mechanism is not fully understood, it reduces fever by acting on the temperature-regulating center of the brain. Paracetamol is not anti-inflammatory, so it does not reduce swelling like NSAIDs (such as ibuprofen), but it is gentler on the stomach and has fewer side effects when taken as directed.
Active Ingredient: Paracetamol 500mg.
Inactive Ingredients: May include maize starch, povidone, magnesium stearate, and other excipients.
Generally well-tolerated but may cause nausea or mild stomach upset.
