Proctosedyl Suppositories are used to reduce swelling, pain, and inflammation of hemorrhoids, piles, and other rectal lesions. The conditions are sometimes caused by a low fibre diet or straining when having a bowel motion. Ensure that you stay hydrated and eat a diet rich in fibre to prevent getting painful hemorrhoids. Sanofi-Aventis company manufactures proctosedyl Suppositories. The remedy is a prescription-only treatment.
How Do Proctosedyl Suppositories Work?
Proctosedyl ointment and suppositories contain hydrocortisone, a steroid, and cinchocaine hydrochloride, a local anesthetic. These work together to reduce swelling and itchiness and numb pain. Proctosedyl suppositories work by temporarily blocking the pathway of pain messages along nerve fibers. This numbs sensation in the area where the medicine has been applied. It produces relief from pain and itching resulting from hemorrhoids, rectal fissures, and lumps.

Ingredients
Proctosedyl suppository contains the active ingredients hydrocortisone and cinchocaine hydrochloride.
The other ingredients are framycetin sulfate BP 10 mg (equivalent to 7 mg of framycetin base-1%), dibucaine (cinchocaine), HCl BP 5 mg (0.5%), and esculin 10 mg (1%).
