Description

What is Zidoval Vaginal Gel?

Zidoval Vaginal Gel is a prescription medication used to treat bacterial vaginosis (BV), a common bacterial infection in the vagina. The active ingredient in Zidoval is metronidazole, an antibiotic that is effective at eliminating the bacteria responsible for BV. Zidoval is applied directly into the vagina using the provided applicator, allowing it to target the infection at the source. Bacterial vaginosis often causes symptoms like abnormal discharge, a fishy odour, and discomfort, and Zidoval helps to restore the natural bacterial balance of the vagina.

How Does Zidoval Vaginal Gel Work?

Zidoval contains metronidazole, an antibiotic that works by inhibiting the growth of certain bacteria. In bacterial vaginosis, harmful bacteria overgrow and disrupt the normal balance of good and bad bacteria in the vagina. Metronidazole directly targets and kills these harmful bacteria, helping to restore the natural environment of the vagina. By applying the gel topically, Zidoval delivers metronidazole directly to the infection site, providing fast and effective relief from BV symptoms. Treatment typically lasts for 5 days, during which time the symptoms of bacterial vaginosis should significantly improve.

Warnings

  • Do not use Zidoval if you are allergic to metronidazole or any of the other ingredients in the gel.
  • Avoid consuming alcohol during treatment and for at least 48 hours after completing the course, as it can cause a severe reaction (flushing, nausea, vomiting, headache).
  • Zidoval is not effective against fungal infections like thrush.
  • Do not use Zidoval during your menstrual period; wait until your period has finished.
  • Do not use tampons while using Zidoval, as they can interfere with the treatment.
  • Consult your doctor before using Zidoval if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, especially during the first trimester.
  • If you experience persistent or worsening symptoms, consult your doctor for further advice.
  • Zidoval may cause mild vaginal irritation; discontinue use and seek medical help if severe irritation or allergic reactions occur.
